South Leicestershire Netball Finals
In a remarkably short space of time Mrs Jennings and the ever resourceful Office Staff managed to get a team together for this event on 3rd May. It was a result of us winning the previous tournament in Harborough.
Missing only one of the previous team, we turned up at Brockington College on a grey and very cold evening to play our matches without having had the opportunity to play since early April.
The matches were quite tense – an early one – nil victory over South Kilworth and also over Badgerbrook led to a more convincing 3 – 1 win over Glenmere.
This put us into the semi-final with a straight 8 win – no defeats record. Somehow we failed to find our mojo here and a loss to Fairfield – the eventual winners of the competition – was a disappointment for the team. But we went into the play offs optimistic of a third place. Unfortunately Badgerbrook – whom we had beaten earlier had learned a trick or two and managed to gain revenge!
So – a fantastic achievement for a group of players who only came together at after school club for six weeks. I was very proud of their competitive spirit; their team work; their respect for the opposition and their passion for sport.
Thank you so much to those who provided such short notice transport and support – and especially to Bridie Green who stepped in to be our contribution to umpiring.
