Cross Country Report from Gaye

Cross Country Report

Prestwold Hall near Loughborough was the venue for the last race of the Leicestershire Primary Schools Cross Country League on Saturday 23rd November. The Ridgway Academy had a great turnout with 16 runners competing on a very cold morning with some sunshine. The course was dry but still muddy in places making it very challenging.

A big thank you to all the children who ran and did their school proud. Thank you also to parents for taking the morning out to go all the way to Loughborough.

Year 3 Girls. The Ridgway Academy had Freya Human who had a strong race working her way up to finish 27th. This was an improvement of 10 places on the last race. Megan Mumford came home in 97th place running in her own age group this time and looked really strong. There was 194 runnersin total in the Year 3 girls race, with the Ridgeway team finishing 10th out of 51 teams – Well done girls!

Year 3 Boys had one runner. Malachy Creighton came home in 11th place. What a great result with 232 runners competing in this very daunting event. The team finished in 19th place out of 51 teams over the 3 races, so well done year 3 Boys.

Year 4 girls only had two runners but both worked hard. First home was Anna Preston 54th then Emily Whitehill with a big improvement to finish 105th out of 190. Great running girls! The team finished in 11th place out of 51.

Year 4 Boys had Jack Stringfellow in his first race at Prestwold to finish 35th - Well done Jack. Then came Daniel Martin 205th and Christian Mills 232nd who ran a strong race. Well done boys. The Team came 26th overall.

Year 5 Girls had a team. They were looking very strong and the pressure was on as they were in joint 3rd place for the team event before this final event with medals up for grabs. First home was Natasha Callis 38th, followed by Georgia Hudson 51st then Emily Mumford 68th. This was a great effort, but not quite enough to make that third place eventually finishing in 4th place. All of them improved their individual positions, so well done to each of you. I was so proud of your attitude and team bonding; please keep it for next season.

Year 5 Boys had only one runner Lucien Human who came 101st out of 202.

Year 6 Girls Only one runner this year, Alisha Panter. She worked hard all the way to finish 46th Well done Alisha, I am really going to miss you next season as you have never missed a race and you always finish with a big smile on your face. There were 122 in your race and you finished 18th in the team event.

Year 6 Boys had a team and were standing in joint 4th in the team results so had everything to run for. It was great team work from Kamran Khan 41st , James Loaring 45th and Max Johnson 45th. Like the girls they just lost out on that elusive 3rd place, but it wasn’t through lack of effort.

A big thank you to all of you for giving so much to the sport of running. It makes me so proud to be a part of your team. So many of you have improved as the season has gone on and I hope that the year 6 pupils continue running as they move on to their next schools.
